An Open Letter to the Young Girl in the Parking Lot of Charlie Brown’s Steak House
Dear Young Girl in the Parking Lot of Charlie Brown’s Steak House:
You don’t know me but you did a wonderful thing for my mother the other night. To give you a little background, my mom is 73 years old. My stepfather is 92. He wears a catheter all the time and needs a wheel chair to get around. In order to keep him lively, my mother occasionally takes him out to the mall or dinner at Charlie Brown’s Steak House, their favorite restaurant.
About three nights ago after dining at the restaurant, my mother was struggling to get my stepfather into the car. It was cold and windy and he does not move as well as he used to. You saw this and (without asking) came to her assistance. You helped her finish getting him in the car and then folded the heavy wheel chair and put it in the trunk. My mother told you that you didn’t have to help and you said that it was too cold for her to be doing that and you were glad to help. You have no idea the impact your kindness had on my mother.
She called me up to tell me the story and she was crying. No, not just crying but sobbing. She couldn’t believe that this tiny little girl who did not know her would go out of her way to help her. My mother has been struggling to take care of Al (my stepdad) since he became debilitated about a year ago. This man was the “everyready Energizer Bunny” who did everything and took care of everything. Now the tables are turned on my mother and she struggles daily with his care. She refuses to put him in a home and feels that this man has worked his whole life and deserves to be cared for in his own home.
It’s a big job and she does most of it by herself. I think the stress of all that work and the fact that his side of the family barely helps or shows interest, has taken it’s toll on mother. It all came to the surface and exploded when you came to her aid. And don’t get me wrong, you did a wonderful thing and I think my mother just needed to cry about it and get it out of her system. She’s feeling better now and she will always have a little special place in her heart for you and so do I. If more people were like you, this world would definitely be a much better place.

What a beautiful story. That’s the problem in this day and age, we only hear stories about the young people doing bad things and being impolite.
It’s nice to see and read a story about someone so helpful. Thank you for sharing. I hope she somehow will see your letter. Then again if you believe in angels, perhaps no one saw her except your Mother and Step-Father and she was there to help only them. I’ve heard stories like that. Myself I believe in angels. You really never ever know what your act of kindness will mean to someone. Even those who are grumpy and don’t seem to appreciate what you’ve done.

wow. this is beautiful! i broke my leg last year and was in a wheelchair for 3 months … i was continually amazed at how many people were willing to help me when i couldn’t do things on my own. there are many kind souls out there – and i am so happy your mom encountered one!

Preston read your touching Mom story..Bless the young lady that was there for your Mom.. I have been in those shoes.. My husband was in a wheelchair and disable for two years before he passed. He had to be in a nursing home as I could not handle all his needs.. As there was very lttle help available to me for his care at home.. He was not old enough for Medicare .. In the two years I got him home twice with help from a friend for a visit.. I want to say I met my friend Sheila as I went to her aid as she struggled with getting her sister who is disable with MS in the car and a wheelchair..on a cold afternoon… Over time we have become best friends.. You just never know..
